Gama is flying high with hub at Glasgow Airport


» Aviation company investment in facilities brings around 50 jobs to the city G


ama Aviation has opened a new £3.8 million hub at Glasgow Airport that will cater


for private and business jets. Te facility was unveiled in


time to be ready for 2014, a year which will see Glasgow host the Commonwealth Games, the MTV Awards and events and functions associated with the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles. Te new hub will bring around


50 engineering, operations and customer service jobs. It will also host the Scotish Air Ambulance service for which Gama has been operating aircraſt for two decades. Gama has also introduced a


Beechcraſt King Air 350C aircraſt that will be available for charter and will also serve as an ad hoc additional aircraſt to support the Scotish Air Ambulance Service. Te development is part of an


overall £17 million programme to improve facilities at Glasgow Airport. Marwan Khalek, Gama’s Chief


Executive, said: We are delighted to complete the first phase of this significant investment, which is a great showcase for our wide ranging aviation capabilities all under one roof.”


Appointment New Chairman for Scottish Exhibition Centre Ltd


The Board of Scottish Exhibition Centre Ltd (owner of the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC)), in Glasgow, recently announced the appointment of Will Whitehorn as Chairman of the company.


He has been a non-executive


director of the SECC since November 2010 and took over as Chairman


on 1 January 2014, following the retirement of Sir Ian Grant who held the position for over 11 years. Formerly President of Virgin


Galactic Ltd, Will Whitehorn previously founded Virgin Trains in 1996 and played a pivotal role in the global growth of the Virgin brand, acting as a spokesman for Sir Richard Branson before establishing


the project to build the world’s first commercial spacecraft. His appointment comes at a time when business for SECC is flourishing with the recent opening of The SSE Hydro, a 13,000 capacity arena which is expected to see more than one million visitors per annum across 150 unique events. It’s on track to deliver profits of £6.2 million in its first year.
