Launch of the Glasgow Enterprise Board and awarding of City Deal status welcomed A


new Glasgow Enterprise Board has been set up in the city with the aim of


helping to create 2,000 businesses. Te initiative is one of a


number of business creation and support measures announced by Glasgow City Council Leader Gordon Matheson at the State of the City Economy conference in November. Te aim is for the Glasgow


Enterprise Board to be led by business leaders and policymakers in the city and supported by the relevant agencies and experts in the field. Currently, Glasgow lags major


competitor cites such as Leeds, Manchester and Birmingham in business creation and retention and the Enterprise Board will help the drive to create and sustain new and existing businesses. Councillor Matheson said:


“Te board will provide independent thinking to encourage entrepreneurship and enterprise in our metropolitan economy and it will deliver on our commitment to increase the number of businesses. “Te most recent figures show 18,000 businesses in Glasgow. We will set a target to increase this to 20,000 by 2017. An additional 2,000 businesses in the city – this will be my priority and it will be
