Welcome FOODLOVERS

January can be a contentious month. Some people (myself included) like to embrace it as an opportunity for “new beginnings”, particularly when it comes to changing their diet, whilst others prefer to stay in, recoup, and save some money following an over-indulgent Christmas. We have tried to cater for everyone in this New Year issue, starting with eating healthily, which in our book includes a nutritious take on the chocolate brownie (page 11). We also suggest a few meat free meal ideas for those looking to make

more changes to their diet (page 36). If you had an extravagant Christmas and you’re trying to spend a little less this month, we have some top tips for frugal eating and entertaining, as well as some great budget recipes - see page 20. Looking for a fresh start in the kitchen? Then why not spare a couple of hours and sort your store cupboard out? Some carefully selected ingredients not only make cooking more effi cient, but can even help to cut down your food spend (page 17). Finally, if you haven’t made (or stuck to) New Year’s resolutions, we have a few foodie suggestions that we think are easy to stick to (page 8), especially with butchers like Philip Warren in the vicinity (page 46). Here’s to an exciting New Year in the West Country - full of bountiful crops and great local produce!
