Nota20 - dezembro 2013 Alunos Erasmusestiveram na ESMGA (continuação)

P 3 9

Last December 12, some special people came to our school. And why are they special? They are those people who leave their country and their university and go to another country to study. They are part of the Erasmus programme, the most successful student exchange pro- gramme in the world, a programme that provides univer- sity students with the opportunity to study in a higher ed- ucation institution in other countries for a period of three months to a year. Last Thursday at around ten past eight, we welcomed five Erasmus students at the train station – two young women, one from Russia and another from Latvia as well as three young men, one from Poland, one from India and another one from Portugal, the president of ESN (Erasmus Student Network) Aveiro. We walked the five Erasmus students to ESMGA. They loved the walk since the weather was nice and we tried to explain to them a little bit about our town and school. When they got there, they were amazed at the differences between our school and theirs. They were going to show 10th grade classes short presentations about their hometowns and their culture and then the students would ask them some questions. We were early at school, so we kept them company until the English teachers arrived. The three sessions were quite pleasant both for them and for us, the students from classes 1 to 11 of the 10th grade. In the end of each session students’ comments were very positive because of their great personalities, especially Anastasia’s, who is very outgoing and even made a short dance show. She even created a Facebook group where her colleagues and she are available to teach us and share their experience with us. Concluding, this was a great day since we had the possi- bility to interact with students from other cultures.■ Ana Pereira and Ana Guedes, 10º11

This activity was an opportunity to allow us to learn a little bit more about other cultures, which were slightly different from our own. Moreover, we could learn about the “ESN Programme” (Erasmus Students Network), which was very interesting. The opportunity of being in touch with other cultures, and learning about them (traditions, habits, behaviours), made us increase our knowledge about the “rest of the world”, which is something that isn’t always available. Although in the session I participated there wasn’t time enough to listen to all the students, I was able to acquire first-hand information about the Erasmus Exchange Pro- gramme, and also to reflect on whether in the future I’d like to enrol in one of these programmes. I just can’t wait to meet more Erasmus Students!!■ Maria Luís Roxo, 10º 6
