Does life really begin at 40!!?
To many people, both men and women, the prospect of their
40th birthday fi lls them with despair; for others it off ers new challenges and opportunities.
The Rotary Club of Bridge of Allan and
Dunblane is about to celebrate its 40th birthday since it obtained its Charter in 1973. To mark this milestone a formal Charter Dinner is being held at the Management Centre at Stirling University on Friday 29th November.
Many changes have occurred since then. Not only has the Club grown in size, it now has nearly 50 members, but rather than being a male only bastion, it now has over 15% of the total membership who are women. This includes three married couples.
However, we are very fortunate to have one of the founder members, David Mackie, still attending regularly, and actively participating in many of our fund raising events. Several other founder members are now honorary members and among these is Andy Murray’s grandfather, Roy Erskine, who started the club’s Am-Am Golf Day to raise funds for Strathcarron Hospice some 28 years ago. To date, over £300,000 has been raised to support this very worthwhile charity. Roy and Shirley regularly participate in our events and we look forward to welcoming them and others along to our birthday celebrations.
With the introduction of the Interact and Rotakids at the Queen Victoria School, the Club looks forward to the next milestone with confi dence, knowing there are young people prepared to make a commitment
to help
others. The Rotary motto of “Service above Self” is being demonstrated at all levels, and this bodes well for the future.
For more information about the Club visit our website at

Brenda’s Timesaving Tips...
Fruit gums look like ‘jewels’ on nativity crowns.
Prepare guest rooms for visitors now, rather than be stressing about it, just before they arrive.
Use fabric to wrap awkwardly shaped presents.
Use the car boot as extra storage space for things like drinks, fruit and veg.
Wrap presents for diff erent people in diff erent wrapping paper. Then it doesn’t matter if labels fall off , or don’t label the parcels, so no one can guess what their present is!
A small present in luxury gift wrap can still be a real treat in hard times.
Some Christmas facts – 8.39AM... on average the time when the fi rst chocolate is eaten on Christmas Day. 38 – the average number of days women spend preparing for Christmas...
Merry Christmas!
