FIRESTONE ISOGARD HD
Firestone ISOGARD HD cover board is a unique, high-density polyiso board which is 12.7mm thickness, weighs just 1.02kg/ m2, is easily adaptable to roof shapes and penetrations using a simple Stanley Knife, and yet provides >800kPa compressive strength, making it extremely resilient under roof traffic.
Due to the thickness of the board, ISOGARD HD readily conforms to the curved profile resulting in an enhanced aesthetic appearance of the fully adhered RubberGard EPDM single ply waterproofing membrane.
FIRESTONE RUBBERGARD: THE EPDM REFERENCE
Since the installation of the first Firestone EPDM roof in 1980, Firestone Building Products has produced and installed over a billion square metres of Firestone RubberGard EPDM worldwide, from the cold climates of Alaska to the desert sun of the Arabian Gulf. Firestone EPDM Roofing Systems dominate the single-ply roofing market through their proven performance, durability and flexibility over a wide range of building types.
Due to their composition, RubberGard EPDM membranes offer unmatched resistance to ozone, UV radiation and extreme temperatures. As the membrane does not contain any plasticizers, its characteristics remain stable and unchanged over time. Studies show a life expectancy of more than 50 years.
RubberGard EPDM is an inert material with limited environmental impact during manufacturing and use. No toxic substances are released during and after installation of the membrane, allowing collection and use of run-off rainwater for domestic use. Firestone RubberGard EPDM can also be recycled and re-used. In addition, Firestone’s EPDM manufacturing facilities have received ISO 14001 certification, a testimony of the company’s commitment to environmental management.
The Firestone Contractor Services team made regular visits to the project during the installation process to provide assistance, developing practical bespoke detailing solutions as the project progressed and ensuring a high quality was maintained throughout the process.
This photograph illustrates the installation of the uppermost ISOGARD HD cover board underway. The mechanical fasteners were distributed in a regular, even pattern, with additional fasteners installed to locate the lower layers of insulation and help conform to the curve of the barrels
Once the ISOGARD HD cover boards were installed, the RubberGard EPDM membrane was adhered using a cold- applied bonding adhesive, rendering the need for hot works, bitumen and other volatile compounds unnecessary.
The RubberGard rolls themselves are 3.05m wide, and consequently it was possible to make the installed cover boards waterproof in a shorter timeframe. The valley gutters created between each barrel vault roof provided a new detailing challenge and bespoke Firestone CAD drawings were produced to ensure that once the installation began, the gutter waterproofing was a straightforward procedure.

From the initial design through to completion, the Firestone team was on hand to provide assistance at every stage of the project. Combined with the expertise of the roofing contractor delivery of a durable, long term roofing solution was ensured, meeting both the technical and aesthetic requirements of the centre for many years to come.

The RubberGard membranes are joined using 75mm wide QuickSeam Splice Tape. Firestone innovations in QuickSeam adhesive technology led to the introduction of many self-adhesive EPDM accessory and flashing products which today form core components of the RubberGard EPDM single ply roof system.
In addition, QuickSeam FormFlash, a self-adhesive, uncured EPDM flashing material which simplifies the installation process, improves onsite productivity and ensured the achievement of many complex detailing situations.
