Located just off the A41 near Bicester Village, Bicester Avenue Garden Centre started life in 1976 as a tiny nursery and turf field attached to a small landscaping business. Following years of expansion and a major redesign in April 2007, a new concept ‘Home and Garden Centre’ was created that has since become a massive success story, attracting literally millions of customers and winning two prestigious retail industry awards in recent years.

In 2012, a new expansion was planned, making innovative use of the existing open steel and poly tunnel structures and would eventually provide some 1,500m2 of additional interior floorspace.

The Firestone roofing solutions team worked closely with the client and contractors to develop a roof specification to meet the demands of the centre.

Firestone RubberGard® EPDM Single Ply Roofing system was selected for ease of application and long-term weatherproofing integrity. Firestone Polyiso insulation was a key element of the design, both in meeting the Part L energy conservation requirements and through use of the unique ISOGARD HD cover board would provide the optimum surface for the waterproofing, ensuring the most durable and aesthetic of installations.

THE FIRESTONE ROOF SOLUTION

Mechanical attachment of the roof insulation layers were ideal as the new roof deck is profiled steel, ensuring quantifiable attachment of insulation in order to resist wind uplift. A vapour barrier was installed over the steel deck, over which Fires- tone ISO95+GL insulation boards were then mechanically fastened. To improve the finished visual appearance of the roofs, and to provide the optimum substrate onto which the new single ply membrane could be adhered, an uppermost layer of Firestone ISOGARD HD cover board was installed.
