Cirencester Scene Magazine - Establishing Local Connections Lit Fest 13

A brand new literary festival for children, young people and families is taking place in Cirencester in August.

Opening on Monday 12th August there will be two events each day to Saturday 17th August with award winning authors. The events are being held in Cirencester’s Bingham Library and Octavia’s Bookshop in Black Jack Street and are being run in conjunction with Gloucestershire Library Service and the BinghamLibrary Trust.

The festival is being opened by Alex T Smith, author of the much loved Claude books. A talented illustrator, Alex will be demonstrating his art and giving a talk to the children. And, of course, signing copies of his books!

Throughout the week, there are events suiting all age groups with some big names in children’s and teen literature in attendance including Damian Dibben, Frances Hardinge

and Andrew Lane, author of the Young Sherlock Holmes series. Local authors include Wendy Meddour and her 11 year old illustrator daughter, Mina May, and Hannah Shaw.

Tickets for each event are just £1 and can be purchased in person from Octavia’s Bookshop, Cirencester.

The Bingham Library Trust is sponsoring the event as part of its commemorative celebrations 100 years following the death of its benefactor Daniel George Bingham. The £1 cover charge for the events will be donated to the Bingham Library Trust to support

its good work in the local Community.

Kumon Grows Confidence Children who study Kumon maths and English not only improve their ability but also grow in confidence, helping them to perform well at school and reach their full potential.

At Kumon, children are given time to practice the skills that they personally find difficult and, by conquering these challenges, emerge on the other side brimming with confidence.

The programme is based on daily work at home and attendance at up to two drop-in sessions per week at Watermoor Parish Hall on Monday and Friday afternoons. Classes run all year round, not just during term time.

An initial assessment is carried out free of charge with each child before starting the programme. Contact Claire Goodman on 01451 860510 after 12th August 2013 or email cirencester@kumoncentre.co.uk to find out how Kumon can help your child.
