to Flourish in Cotswolds Tree Wardens in the Cotswolds celebrated another momentous year at their recent annual conference, which was hosted at the Dolphins Hall, Tetbury on Saturday 15 June. Over 50 delegates attended with some coming from as far afield as Walsall and Yeovil.


Liz Farnham, the Mayor of Tetbury, welcomed the delegates to the conference and set the scene for a number of tree-related presentations, including the future of the lime in the English woodland and a recent survey of tree health.


In the afternoon, Simon Toomer. Director of the National Arboretum at Westonbirt, and Jon Stokes, Director of Rural Programmes at The Tree Council, conducted tours of Westonbirt focusing on some

of the issues discussed in the morning, including a detailed inspection of the great lime tree which attracts many visitors.


Cotswold District Council was represented at the conference by Cllr Stephen Hirst, one of the ward members for Tetbury, who commented:


“We are fortunate to have such a dedicated group of volunteers in this district. The Wardens are extremely keen and knowledgeable and they continue to work in close harmony with officers at the Council, promoting and preserving the impressive variety and quality of trees throughout the Cotswolds. I am aware that this is one of the most active – and praised – tree preservation groups in the country and it was a pleasure to attend their conference and hear about their achievements and plans for the future.”
