Town Walks in Cirencester “The Town Walk Team are here to welcome you!” Whatever the weather we are here to join with you, our Cirencester visitors, to help you make the most of your stay. Locals are just as welcome; in fact they make up about 1 in 5 of our walkers. The history of the town is long and varied. From the Romans who started the whole thing off on a virtually green-field site – the local people had their prime settlement by Bagendon at that time - to present times. If you look at the location of the town on modern or, indeed, a map of the Roman roads built nearly 2000 years ago, you can see how it is at the centre of a spider’s web, indicating its key role in the area. Today many people still want to live and work here. We aimto share with you some of that story; the history of Cirencester. So join with us on our Town Walk. Continuing until 29th September we will be offering walks on every Sunday, and on the Saturday, Sunday and Monday of the Bank Holidays, as well as on some Wednesdays and Saturdays until 28th August. They all start at 3pmoutside the Church Porch in the Market Place and take about 75 minutes. We only ask for £2 per adult towards the Civic Society efforts to preserve the town for our successors.” Any queries, including to book a special walk for any daylight hour in the year, to William Cooper, coordinator@cirencestertownwalks>co.uk or 01285 885590.
