12. ENGINE: Cast iron 350-360 cubic inch (max.) V8 with cast iron cylinder heads representing Chevrolet, Dodge and Ford. A new spec engine option became available in 2009. All cars are fitted with Holley 390 four-barrel carburetors. Rules equalize performance, resulting in approximately 550 horsepower.


13. SAFETY SEAT: Provides extra support and protection for head, shoulders, ribs and lower extremities.


14. HEAD AND NECK RESTRAINT: NASCAR mandates the use of head-and-neck restraint system, called the HANS Device.

17. STEERING WHEEL: Has a quick release button for quick and easy entrance or exit of the cockpit area.


18. ENGINE GAUGE CLUSTER: Monitors engine oil pressure, water temperature, oil tempera- ture, voltage and fuel pressure. Also includes the Tachometer which monitors revolutions per minute (RPMs) of engine, assisting driver in selecting gears and monitoring engine power.


19. IGNITION SYSTEM: Placed on the passenger-side, this box is programmed to help the engine achieve the most precise timing possible, for maximum power.


20. FIRE EXTINGUISHER: Is controlled with a switch near the driver. Discharges fire-suppressing chemicals into the driving compartment in case of a fire.
