Text alert reminders
PATIENTS with an outpatient appointment booked at a Hywel Dda Health Board hospital can now choose to receive a text message reminder as efforts are made to help tackle the problem of people missing appointments. On average, 24,000 appointments
are lost every year – that’s six per cent of all appointments – because patients fail to attend. For more information visit

Schools have opportunity to help community project
LLANELLI primary school pupils have taken part in a project which gave them an opportunity to voice their opinions on aspects of their communities. Children from Ysgol Y Felin;
Ysgol Maes-y-Morfa; Ysgol Bryn Teg; and Bigyn took part in the ‘Our Community Project’, a
collaboration between the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, the SWW Reaching Wider Partnership and CVC Media. Trystan Rees, Reaching Wider

PARTICIPANTS on an European Lifelong Learning Programme were in Llanelli last week as part of The Pinocchio Forum, they and their hosts learnt about the story of Merlin and other local folklore. The four project partners are from
Italy, Poland, Switzerland and the Llanelli Multicultural Network. Activities and local visits included a day of activities at Y Ffwrnes where they created a shadow puppet show. Arts4Wellbeing
facilitated the craft/heritage activities.
Officer at the University said: “The 'Our Community' project provides a great insight into the opinions, issues and day to day concerns of young people in these areas. The films are produced entirely by the pupils with the assistance of the University's Student Ambassadors, and the standard of the work is once again exceeding all of our expectations. We look forward to the film premiere to be held on our Carmarthen campus in July."
Bosch recall notice
Scouting mechanics
ALMOST 40 scouts from
Carmarthen have been honing their automotive skills to gain their mechanic badge working with staff at Coleg Sir Gâr’s Automotive Engineering Centre. Over the last term, 39 members of
the 5th Carmarthen Scout Group have been learning how engines work and
undertaking basic car
maintenance. The final stage of obtaining their mechanic badge required workshop facilities, as scouts are required to change wheels, wiper blades and understand engine fluids and MOT requirements. Assistant curriculum head, John
Morrissey, said: “This is the first time the centre has linked with the scout group. The enthusiasm of the scouts was overwhelming, it was such a pleasure to see them being rewarded with their badges, and we hope to build on this link again next year.”
MID and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service is urging the public to check their dishwasher models after a recent spate of fires. The Service has attended three fires over the last few months involving the
control module on Bosch Dishwashers. Bosch has recalled 632,000 dishwashers, including some manufactured by Neff and Siemens. The affected models were manufactured between 1999 and 2005 and have
batch numbers between FD7901 through to FD8504. Those who do not have a number between this range are not affected. The batch numbers can be found either etched on the top edge of the door,
or on a plate located on the top left edge of the dishwasher door. Anyone who has an affected dishwasher should contact Bosch on 0800 023 4881. Bosch has managed to locate 153,000 of the affected models to date.
