EDITION 13 May - June 2013 Catch the wave!

Leisure in Carmarthenshire Llandeilo music festival

15

GET ready to catch the wave at Llanelli’s North Dock this summer. A business entrepreneur has put

forward a wake boarding proposal which involves riding a board over the water developing the skills of snow boarding, skiing and surfacing. Matt Baker Smith, who has already

created kite surfing and board operations in Swansea and Gower, thinks Llanelli’s North Dock in the Millennium Coastal Park is the perfect venue for his new venture. He plans to acquire the Sphereball

and peddaloes currently operating at the dock and incorporate them into the venture making it an all round

family attraction in June. He is already linking to kite surfers

using Llanelli beach and offering them alternative opportunities when tide and winds do not allow them to operate off the coast. Matt said: “The North Dock has a

retained and ambient depth of water for safe all the year round use. We can put temporary soft jumps and slaloms to make the wakeboarding experience more competitive for experience users.” The operation is compatible with

present water sport users and will not affect kayakers, swimmers and small leisure craft.

Proms last night

OVER 250 voices and musicians are uniting for the roof-raising Last Night of the Proms on June 8 at Ffwrnes Theatre Llanelli. The baton of conductor John Hywel Williams will unite the British Sinfoni- etta Orchestra, the massed voices of the Hywel Girls’ Choir & Hywel Boy Singers, Llanelli Choral Society, Dunvant Male Voice Choir, Cardiff Singer of the Year finalist Gary Griffiths, organist Huw Tregelles Williams, pianist Jean Hywel and narrator Jeremy Hywel Williams for a flagwaving patriotic musical extravaganza.
