New Bronte Creek Equestrian Centre Is Every Horse Lover’s Dream

Owner’s lifelong passion and knowledge of dressage leads to new multi-discipline facility By Andrea Cascone

Located in Carlisle, Ontario, the new Bronte Creek Equestrian Sport Ltd facility is the brainchild of former Concourse Complet International (CCI) com- petitor and World- renowned trainer, Judith Bisiker. The brand new facilities include an impressive 200ft by 90ft indoor area complete with viewing lounges, an out- door arena, a tack room with individual lockers, as well as a fully equipped change room.

and stable management along with various demonstrations and speaking events at the facility.

The acknowledges her good fortune throughout the entire process of designing and building the Bronte Creek facility and getting it off the ground. Bisiker is supported in this endeavour by Samantha Lacey, B.Sc., and Carole Partridge, RVT, and other knowledge- able, enthusiastic staff. Being situated close to several other established equestrian facilities, Bisiker foresees forging a strong professional bond with her neighbours as she launches her business.

Eighteen months ago, Bisiker was happily living in England running a suc- cessful business when she realized: “My children were growing up and I found myself thinking ‘what is there for me now?’ I was missing the horses and missing the involve- ment that I had in the industry during my earlier years.” Bisiker says that she woke up one morning with the desire to return to Canada but thinking it would take her five to ten years before she would make the move. Fast-for- ward a year and a half later and Bisiker is back home again in Ontario doing what she loves and knows best - working with horses. The stunning physi- cal structure and design of the facility is entirely the product of Bisiker’s mind. “I couldn’t find any exist- ing properties that were up and running or offered the amenities I needed for what I wanted to do, so I decided to build it myself,” says Bisiker. “I didn’t want an

“I am surrounded by real team players and that is what makes this a happy place to work,” she says excitedly. It is clear that the respect and support goes both ways. Bisiker asserts, “I want people to feel good when they come here and I want them to feel great when they leave.”

have a horse that is tense or slightly anti-social, you can bring it to a corner on its own and address the horse personally,” she says. She and her staff absolutely love this unique layout. The project has proven to be a true labor of love and while the facility is not yet in full operational mode, the stable has already welcomed a num- ber of 4-legged boarders. “I never dreamt in a million years that I would be able

to build something as beau- tiful or as big as this,” she says. This summer, Bronte Creek Equestrian Sport Ltd will be hosting several exciting events including their open house, tentative- ly scheduled for late July or early August. With spring already in the air, there is lots more work for Bisiker and her staff. The fields need to be main- tained as well as the fenc- ing around the property. She also plans to construct an outdoor grass jumping paddock and a grass dres- sage arena specifically for summer use. Furthermore, Bisiker hopes to have a cross-country course built for summer of 2014 so that she can eventually host eventing competitions and training lessons.

indoor arena followed by a line of stalls which was too mechanical.” While she acknowledges that this more traditional setup cer- tainly does work, she need- ed the layout to reflect the atmosphere that she wanted to create. “I was after an environment that was real- ly relaxed for both the horses and their owners. I also needed a layout that would be conducive to effi- cient work production while also catering to the different needs of all of the horses,” she explains. Instead of a straight line of indoor stalls, they are located around the facility like pods. The design affords Bisiker and her staff lots of little nooks near each stable. “If you

Ultimately, Bisiker would like to run clinics and lessons herself. She loves teaching and has a great deal of patience for both the riders that come to see her and their horses. With a background in both

eventing and jump training, she hopes to impart her knowledge of these disci- plines to future students. Furthermore, she would love to open Bronte Creek up to guest clinicians: “I would love to bring some trainers and horse profes- sionals over from the UK, especially Lucinda Green. I would also like to invite trainers from British Columbia like Nick Holmes-Smith who I think is so brilliant.” Green is a champion British equestri- an and journalist and Holmes-Smith is a talented event rider who is now coaching a new generation of riders. Bisiker also hopes to invite Ian Roberts, an Ontario-based coach, and many other clinicians. She hopes to center the focus of her students’ stud- ies on dressage. “It’s the building block of all other disciplines,” she explains, “and is an important foun- dation for both the rider and the horse.” She plans to offer courses on horse
