54/ MARCH/APRIL 2013 THE RIDER How the Equi-Bow Technique can Help YOU and your Horse

WHAT is Equi-Bow Technique?

Equi-Bow Tech- nique (EBT) is a gentle and effective manual therapy/technique that relieves tension patterns in the body resulting in a state of relaxation. EBT primarily works on the nervous and muscular systems as well as the ligaments and fascia, creating balance in the skeletal framework of the body as well as the internal organs, address- ing the body as a whole. The skeleton is held upright and in place by the soft tissue and ner- vous system of the body. When the horse’s body is in balance physically and physiologically, the horse will have the abili- ty to perform optimally. When the soft tissue and

After an initial assessment, two sessions are required a week apart to help the body optimize the beginning of the process. Three to five sessions, stretched out over a period of time, can help for more permanent results and chronic issues may need some maintenance.

WHAT TO EXPECT DUR- ING A SESSION:

The Equi-Bow practitioner will take a health history and discuss an assessment of the horse’s posture and behaviour with the owner. Checking with the veterinarian is recommend-

ed. An entire session usually takes approximately 60 minutes depending on the complexity of the issue(s). During the Equi-Bow session, the horse almost always displays signs that the nervous system is being affected. Especial- ly noticeable may be the calming of an excitable horse into a quiet, non-agitated posture, yawning, stretching, blowing through their noses. As the session progress, the breathing rate and pulse rate change and horses often close their eyes as if they are sleeping. Photos 3,4
