and women out of the woodwork. The 13th year for this event, the Valley Fishing and Outdoors Show, is the brainchild of ex-Conservation Officer Dave Arbour. This year’s Show is set for April 5 and 7 at the Carp Fairgrounds and Arena and boasting everything from casting ponds to archery, shooting and fishing simulators. With more than 100 exhibitors and hunting and fishing equipment scattered like an April rain

shower, this event is a must. The special thing about shows up the valley is that you are bound to run into someone you know. For more information, contact: Dave Arbour at (613) 257-7489.

TRACKING WITH TERRY Thanks to pal Brian Houle,

I had the pleasure this winter of checking out Mantracking: The Ultimate Guide to Tracking Man or Beast, a book written by Terry Grant and Nadine Robinson. (Brian contributed some hunting info himself.) If you don’t know who Terry

Grant is, you must not have been watching Canadian Television over the past few years. Terry is the original “Mantracker”, spawning a horde of mantracking fanatics across the country. Hey, even my own daughters play the Mantracker game at the campground each summer, all thanks to Mr. Grant. An expert tracker in his

own right, Grant’s skills and reputation have led him anywhere from training British soldiers to becoming a search-and-rescue

volunteer in his post-Mantracker life. Terry still teaches tracking courses around the world and also enjoys crafting his own custom furniture out of his home in Alberta. This book I found to be as

informative as it was intriguing. It is what I would call a “super comprehensive” guide for all outdoor sportsmen looking to hone their tracking and trailing skills. Part of the proceeds from each book sold goes to

Scouts Canada, which is also terrific. For more information log onto:
