A message from Bovey Tracey’s Town Mayor, Councillor Anna Klinkenberg
O Guide.
Last year was an outstanding year nationally and locally with the Queen Elizabeth ll Diamond Jubilee celebrations and of course the Olympic and Paralympic Games being held in London. This year we have local issues to support or oppose. The Teignbridge local plan has an
enormous impact on local development proposals that can have an impact on any town or village with Teignbridge positively or negatively; Bovey Tracey is not immune from future development. There are all sorts of pressures for development, not least the fact that local families are still in need of affordable housing and, not unnaturally, want to stay in the town or village where they have grown up, gone to school and are working. Affordable housing in 99 per cent of occasions will only be built through open market housing development, meaning that to have the homes for local people we have to have new housing developments. The issue then becomes where that housing development will be; a lot of work has been done by Teignbridge District over the last few years determining that very

point. We now have to wait and see how that all evolves through the Planning Inspectorate. Bovey Tracey Town Council continues with its plans for the regeneration of Station Road car park and the re- building of the Old Thatched Inn; this area is a strategic and focal point for everyone coming into Bovey Tracey so needs to be of the highest possible standard as it will be there for many, many years to come.
A cycle/community path through Mill Marsh Park will be a new facility welcomed by many people, the path is planned to link through to Moretonhampstead in the future. So whether you are a resident or visitor to Bovey Tracey I hope this guide will help and inform your stay. Throughout the year there are always activities and events for your enjoyment and 2013 will be no exception. Many visitors return year after year encouraged by the standard of service they have received from local shops, hotels and bed and breakfast establishments. For residents I hope you find this guide useful and informative, it’s always nice to find that service you need is available right here on your doorstep!
