Pétanque Club Bovey Tracey
The concept THE sport is played with metal balls and a wooden jack and can be played by teams of three players (triples), two players (doubles) or a straight head-to-head between two single players. The object of each end is to get more of your boules closer to the jack than your opponent (each one that is closer scores one point) and the team/player to score the points being played for first; wins the game.
PÉTANQUE has a wide appeal because the sport can offer such a wide range of benefits to players of both sexes over a selection of age groups (from eight to 80), and on equal terms. It can truly be called a sport for all the family. Bovey Tracey Petanque club started 30 years ago and play at BT AFC Ground in St Johns Lane, Bovey Tracey. We play friendly club games from April to November. Some of the club members also play in South Devon Twinning Petanque League and last year we won the league trophy for the 11th consecutive year, plus five out of eight league club trophies.
Some of the members of the club are pictured on the right with their winnings. These were presented at the end of year social which was held at the Exminster Golf and Country Club. We meet every Sunday
afternoon for friendly club games and anyone wishing to try their hand is welcome to come along. Contact Mike Watson on 01626 832888.
