BOVEY TRACEY Carnival
IT’S that time of year again when the carnival rumour mill starts, writes carnival committee press officer Hayley Smith. Will we, wont we? Well I am pleased to say that 2013 will be playing host to a carnival again. We were extremely pleased with the turnout and support we had in 2012 and we hope that this year we can build on that. Unfortunately, we did not raise enough funds last year to give any donations to local charities or community organisations, however, we are hoping that the carnival spirit has been resurrected and 2013 will be a bumper year so our community can benefit. This year’s carnival kicks off on
Saturday, July 27, with a Vehicle Rally, followed by our FREE music evening Picnic in the Park in Mill Marsh Park. Our headline act is Exeter-born Adam Isaac, who was a quarter-finalist the BBC1 show, The Voice, in 2011 and the band We Three Kings. More info can be found on our facebook page.
On Sunday, July 28, we bring back our afternoon of fun at our
Funday Fete from 12.30pm where there will be demonstrations, kid’s activities, stalls and lots more. The rest of the week’s events are as normal. Monday, July 29, is Carnival Bingo at the town hall, 7pm; Tuesday, July 30, Quiz Night at The Dolphin Hotel, 7.30pm; Wednesday, July 31, Sports Night at the Recreation ground by the Swimming Pool, 6.30pm; Thursday, August 1, Skittles Night at the Football Club,
7.30pm; Friday, August 2, Interpub Challenge, at The Football Club, 6.30pm; and the grand finale is Procession Day on Saturday, August 3, starting at 6.30pm from the town hall and proceeding on its usual route, however, this year we are finishing at Thorns Cross. The evening ends with our usual fireworks display at Mill Marsh Park at 10pm. We hope that plenty of people will come and support us so we can again commence raising funds for various local charities and bring together our community.
