Bovey Tracey
THE Bovey Tracey Horticultural Society held its first summer show in 1863 which continued up until the mid-1930s. In the 1960s the Bovey Tracey Produce Association took over the running of the British Legion’s Annual Flower Show, and re-instated the name of the Bovey Tracey Horticultural Society. It has since become not quite so specific, with the object of promoting and encouraging interest in horticulture and country crafts and is open to all-comers. Every second Tuesday of the month, during the winter and spring months – November to April – the society holds a talk on an item of horticultural interest. The talks commence at 7.30pm in the Methodist Church Hall, Le Molay Littry Way, Bovey Tracey.
Excursions are organised during the year, to
horticultural venues both local and distant, including a theatre trip to London, and a Christmas outing in December.
The society holds two shows every year. The Spring Show
which is a members’ only
exhibition in April at the
Methodist Hall and the main event, the Summer Show, in Parke View Meadow, opposite the Methodist Church, on the third Saturday in August.
Membership subscription is £7.50 per year. This gives free entry to the winter meetings and a quarterly newsletter. For further details, contact Jill Hosford 01626 832966 or email
