DER LEITER DER Glücksspielkommission Uruguays, Javier Chá, verlangte dringende Änderungen an den Glücksspielgesetzen des Landes und machte mangelnde Eingriffe der Regierung für das Emporkommen des ille- galen Glücksspiels verantwortlich.
DIE TESTEXPERTEN VON BMM TESTLABS öffneten die Pforten ihres neuen Geschäftssitzes in Süd-Nevada und machten damit den Weg frei für ein fortgesetztes Wachstum und die Schaffung neuer Arbeitsplätze in der Region. DIE ARGENTINISCHE REGIERUNG GAB bekannt, dass sie Kreditkartengeschäfte mit ausländischen Casinos und Online-Spiel-Sites blockieren würde. Die Maßnahme, die am 15. März wirksam wurde, ist der letzte einer ganzen Serie von Schritten, mit denen der Abfluss von Dollars aus der Zentralbank eingeschränkt und der argentinische Peso gestärkt werden soll.

CASINOS IM SÜDAFRIKANISCHEN Westkap wurden mit einer von Ministern als "Sündensteuer" bezeichneten Abgabe belegt. Die Steuererhöhung um 2 Prozent wird jährlich etwa 25 Millionen Rand zusätzlich in die Staatskassen spülen. Entsprechend einer Änderung der Provinzgesetzgebung, die das Glücksspiel und Wettrennen in der Provinz regelt, wird eine Steuererhöhung um pauschal zwei Prozent auf alle sechs Einnahmenkategorien angewendet werden.
ARISTOCRAT TECHNOLOGIES HAT bekannt gegeben, dass das Unternehmen eine vertragliche Vereinbarung mit GiGames, die zur CONEI Corporation gehören, getroffen hat, wonach man im Bereich des Verkaufs und des Kundendienstes sowie in anderen Marktbereichen zusammenarbeiten will, um die Positionen beider Unternehmen am spanischen Markt auszubauen. Die Vereinbarung betrifft aktuell erhältliche sowie zukünftige Aristocrat-Spiele, Spielhallen/- salons und den Gaststättenmarkt sowie auch die potenzielle Automatenplatzierung in weit- eren Glücksspielsektoren, einschließlich Casinobetriebe und vernetzte Glücksspielangebote.
Cypriot casinos last ‘resorts’

As the economic problems in Cyprus tumble to a climatic head, the process to bring large-style resorts casinos to the Greek-owned Cyprus, south of the border, appears to have been kick-started. Looking at ways to boost its failing economy, the government has said it aims to open the first casinos within two years. It has instructed the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) to review the analyses it conducted in 2007. The CTO predicts annual revenues for the state would be between €35 and €50m.
New Minister of Tourism George Lakkotrypis has said that with regards to the casino issue, the ministry needs to assess all the available information before making its final decision. He referred to the social dimension of the issue, replying to questions about the criteria of admission to the casino etc.
He described the issue of casinos as being urgent and the government hopes that in two years the first casinos will be operating on the island.
The Ministry of Justice and Public Order has completed its first draft of a bill paving the way to resort casinos in the south of the island. Minister Ionas Nicolaou informed that the only aspect that was outstanding was the level of taxation that the new casinos would pay. That, he said, would be decided by the Ministry of Finance although the Ministry would recommend four or five betting taxation systems.
Mr. Nicolaou explained: "The bill we have drafted meets recommendations made by the Cyprus Tourism Organisation on resort casinos. We have examined legislation used in other countries, we have incorporated strict provisions both as regards its operation and the protection of the citizen.”
The Minister believes the operation of a bricks and mortar casino would raise more money than internet gaming. The government would receive money before the casinos open with an initial investment coming from the chosen operator.
“Revenue will come not only from betting but also from the standing annual income generated from the operation of the casino,” he explained.
The casinos in the Turkish-controlled north generated
around €600m in annual revenues.
There are some 25 fully-fledged
casinos in Turkish Cyprus.
The number of casinos to be allowed will be determined by the Council of Ministers, after analysing a study to be carried out on the subject.
The previous government had doggedly refused to consider introducing casinos despite Greek Cypriots gambling fortunes at casinos in the north of the island.
Aristocrat and GiGames to work together in Spain
Aristocrat Technologies has signed a deal with GiGames, part of the CONEI Corporation, to partner in sales, after-sales support and other areas to help grow each other’s position in the Spanish market. The agreement will cover currently available and future Aristocrat games arcade/salon and bar markets, as well as potential machine deployments in other gaming sectors including casino and networked gaming operations.
Having established a firm base in the specialised salon segment and now entering the broader bar market, Aristocrat is seeking to maximise opportunities in Spain. The agreement with GiGames will go beyond simple box and game sales, explained General Manager – EMEA, Pedro De Matos. “GiGames offer an established, significant
domestic install base and a national logistics and rapid response network vital to our operational needs. Their local knowledge and expertise in this market provide the perfect match. Customers will benefit from not only the ready availability of our games but also a proven nation-wide back-up service that is so crucial in a diverse mix of single and multi-site venues.”
Juan Lao, President of CONEI, added: “We have been impressed by the quality of Aristocrat content and see this as a natural fit with our own successful brand of sales games. The additional variety will enhance the status of our operations estate and offers customers a unique games portfolio that will be extremely hard to beat in terms of both entertainment quality and performance.”
