Casino Montreal is one of the world’s largest casinos and welcomes 17,000 visitors per day. It was originally located in the former Expo ’67 French Pavilion and was opened in October 1993. At the time it had 65 tables and 1,200 slots. In 1994 the casino was expanded and again two years later when it took over the former Quebec Pavilion. Major renovations began in 2009 is expected to be completed by autumn 2013 with the inauguration in time for the venue’s 20th anniversary. Today the casino houses 100 gaming tables including 18 Texas Hold ‘em Poker and 3,000 slots and one electronic Texas Hold ‘em Poker. There are four restaurants on site.
Casino De Charlevoix was opened in 1994 in the Manoir Richelieu’s former summer playhouse on the cliffs of Pointe-au-Pic. In 1998 Loto Quebec teamed up with Canadian Pacific Hotels and the Solidarity Fund QFL to acquire Manoir Richelieu, renovate it and expand the casino. It reopened in 1999 and is a world class resort. It houses more than 900 slots and 20 tables including seven poker tables. There are two bars.

CASINOS The Société des Casinos du Quebec (SCQ) is responsible for the operation and development of Quebec’s casinos and is also the primary promoter of tourism in the four regions of Quebec. Today there are four casinos located in Montreal, Charlevoix, Lac-Leamy and Mont- Tremblant. The first two casinos in Montreal and Charlevoix opened in 1992.
The SCQ, via Casino Mundial which was created in 2002, also brings Quebec’s know how in designing and operating casinos to the world. In 2005 Casino Mundial became a 35 per cent shareholder of the French JoaGroupe, which owns and operates 20 casinos in France.
The casino sector sales rose by 1.7 per cent last year and reached $871m which is 22.9 per cent of Loto-Quebec’s total revenues. Growth at the Casino de Montreal was 1.3 per cent whilst Lac- Leamy grew by 1.9 per cent, Charlevoix by 2.9 per cent and Mont-Tremblant by seven per cent.
The casinos saw annual visitors of around 10.3 million with 1.8 million of these from outside of the province.
Highlights last year at the casinos included the launch of new slot machines and new table games such as Ultimate Texas Hold ‘em poker and Blackjack Switch. The SCQ also introduced its first hybrid game, electronic roulette.
Meanwhile in cooperation with Ingenio, a new mobile application was added to enable customers to locate games and services in a given casino plus provide them with news and other special offers.

Casino du Lac-Leamy and the Hilton Lac- Leamy complex are one of the region’s key attractions and home to casino, hotel, restaurants, bars, spa and convention centre and theatre. It was the first of Quebec’s casinos to be built entirely and opened in 1996. In 2000 it launched a $210m renovation project to expand and build a 350 room hotel, conference centre and the theatre which reopened in 2001. The casino has 60 tables including 12 Texas Hold ‘em Poker and more than 1,800 slots, three restaurants, two bars and two reception halls. Last year the first Loto-Quebec Grand Poker Tournament was held at Lac-Leamy casino which became one of the most prestigious events in Canada. Meanwhile rejuvenation work started at Lac-Leamy in autumn 2012 with work due to last 27 months at a cost of $50m.
Casino De Mont-Tremblant was officially opened in 2009 and is an upscale venue located in a very natural setting. It is housed on three floors with 500 slots and 16 gaming tables including three Texas Hold ‘em tables. The casino has two private lounges, restaurants and outdoor terraces.
VLTS The Société des Lotteries Video du Quebec (SLVQ) is responsible for the network of VLTs operated by establishments with a bar or tavern licence which have also obtained a VLT operators licence from the RACJ.
