platform called espacejeux.com. The SJVQ plans to make its virtual gaming platform a key part of Loto-Quebec’s evolution by offering the entire products from Loto-Quebec in a competitive environment.

On December 1 2010 Loto-Quebec’s online gaming site Espacejeux.com was officially launched and today offers poker, blackjack, roulette, table games, slots, sports betting and lotteries. In October it then launched a new online game called Quebec Max.

In March 2012 Mise-o-jeu, Loto-Quebec’s online sports betting site was launched enabling players to bet on sports via computer, phone or tablet and since August 2012 lotteries can now be bought online either via a computer or mobile device including the games Lotto Max, Quebec Max, Lotto 6/49, Quebec 49 and Banco. The mobile Mise-o-jeu applications were designed by Loto- Quebec’s own Ingenio subsidiary.

OpenBet has partnered with Loto-Quebec to develop the online system and the customer account management system was designed by OpenBet which has also supplied some of the table games.

An OpenBet spokesperson said: “At the time of our involvement there were over 2,000 illegal and unregulated online gaming sites available to residents of Quebec. Loto-Quebec wanted to put together an online offering that provided Quebec residents with a safe, secure and legal gaming environment.

“Loto-Quebec needed a partner that could satisfy a range of key criteria. Firstly there had to be no question over the legality of that partner’s operations. Secondly they had to be able to provide the infrastructure that would enable a best in class product. And thirdly they must have a solid track record of working with third party suppliers.

“These three stipulations effectively sum up what we have created at OpenBet and highlight why we were selected as Loto- Quebec’s partner and indeed have become the provider of choice in Canada.

“At the very heart of our business is the necessity to be ‘open’. OpenBet Account allows operators to integrate with many other products and services while OpenBet Casino allows Loto-Quebec to tailor its casino offering to provide any third party game on their platform and to develop the software further to meet their unique requirements.”

OpenBet has over 100 partners and an infrastructure which allows customers to

Meanwhile poker is offered on a common platform via the British Columbian Lottery Corporation and the Atlantic Lottery Corporation. It is hosted in Montreal and the platform is provided by Spielo G2, the interactive gaming division of Spielo International. The Espacejeux.com saw sales of $19.4m last year.

BINGO The Société des Bingos du Quebec (SBQ) designs and markets network bingo products and also created the Kinzo Game which is played in Kinzo halls.

This subsidiary was set up in 1997 and began with a network of 179 bingo halls and initially two bingo products were offered daily. In 1999 a keno game was launched and in 2002 a new policy was enforced which meant all network bingo profits are paid to non profit organisations and today more than 600 organisations benefit.

introduce third party suppliers.

In 2010 Kinzo was inaugurated which was a new entertainment game followed by the first Kinzo Express halls opened in June 2011. There are currently eight Kinzo Express halls with more to open this year.

There are 60 halls connected through a computerised system offering Network Bingo. There are 14 Kinzo locations which can each accommodate up to 50 players. Virtual Kinzo calls numbers in real time and players can experience the game wherever they are located. It is designed for group outings.

To play Kinzo you place your cash bet on the gaming table and a Kinzo ticket costs $2. Your game ticket will include 15 numbers in three rows and nine columns. Kinzo is two games of either the Line or the 15/15. The Line prize wins eight per cent of sales whilst the 15/15 can win anything from a regular jackpot (42 per cent of sales) up to $100,000 Super Jackpot.

Bingo sales rose by 8.4 per cent last year and reached almost $34m.
