FIVE free places are on offer for the SOSBAN cycle ride taking place on Sunday, May 12. County Cycles is offering to pay


the entry fees for five lucky readers who wish to take part in the charity event. The company organises two


Sportive events for charity each year - the SOSBAN started as a ladies only,


youngsters are being encouraged to cycle so registrations have been opened to children for half price. All money raised this year will go to Prince Philip Hospital. The other Sportive is the Merlin


Ride – the aim is to reach 1000 entries this year – money from this event will go to Air Ambulance, McMillan, Prostate cancer and Ty Hafan. For more details visit County Cycles on Facebook. Enduro mountain biker Matt scales new heights


MOUNTAIN biker Matthew Page is Carmarthenshire’s Sport Personality of the Year - at the fourth attempt.


Matthew was at a glittering gallery of Carmarthenshire sporting stars at Stradey Park Hotel where the county’s rich sporting legacy were honoured at the 15th annual awards.


Other winners were: Young Sportswoman of the Year: Amy Roberts, cycling;


Young Sportsman of the Year, Scott Davies, cycling; Volunteer of the Year, Carl Daniels, netball; Young Sports Volunteer Award: Nathan Jones, athletics; Community Sports Coach of the Year: Susy Evans, karate;


High Performance Coach of the Year: John Evans, water polo; Disabled Sportsman of the Year: Michael Beynon, athletics;


Disabled Sportswoman of the Year, Claire Williams, athletics;


Young Team of the Year: Coleg Sir Gar Men’s Rugby Team; Team of the Year: Ammanford Cricket Club;


Ryan Jones Memorial Award for Outstanding Services to Sport: Roy Adams, athletics.

previous regional BHS awards of “Good Guys” and “Certification of Appreciation”. It has been achieved by the Council


working closely with riders groups and BHS officers in providing off- road routes with financial support from CCW, the Welsh Government, the Valleys Heart and Soul Programme, Western Valleys and ERDF.


Walkers are Welcome


WALKERS are Welcome in Llandovery where the town recently became the first in Carmarthenshire to be approved for the status. The membership is a boost to tourism in the county and encouragement


for other towns to apply to join. The group had widespread support from the community and local businesses are already promoting the status. An official launch is being held at the Castle Hotel in early spring, and a
