CARMARTHENSHIRE NEWS • EDITION 12 MARCH - APRIL 2013 Canopies light way to Llanelli’s bright future

WORK is well advanced on a programme of erecting new canopies in Llanelli rejuvenating the town centre. The 12-week project, part of the

greater £10-million Adref town centre redevelopment, will see a spread of free standing canopies on both sides of Stepney and Vaughan streets. There is a rolling programme to install the whole glass and LED illuminated canopy structure by the end of April. Swathes of Stepney Street have

already taken on a new hue with paintwork completely transforming the look of previously fading

Victorian grandeur. New paving throughout is nearing completion, including an attractive central square at the junctions of Stepney and Vaughan streets with a free standing canopy. Impressive art works will also be added throughout the development. The Adref project includes the

refurbishment of Coleshill, grants for businesses, cycle path linkages and the improvements to key gateways around the town centre. It is part funded

European

Regional

Development Fund through the Welsh Government.

WITH a little less than 18 months to go before the Carmarthenshire National Eisteddfod, preparations are gathering momentum, with committees being created and meetings being held throughout the county. The Eisteddfod week is the pinnacle of one of Wales' largest community

projects, and over the next few months, hundreds of activities will be taking place in the county, to raise the profile of the Eisteddfod and to raise funds for the local fund. Currently, the focus is on the local communities, and then, in September, partnerships will be formed with all sectors as we enter the year of the Eisteddfod. The first big date for your diary is June 29 for the Proclamation Festival.

This is a day of activities that give a taste of what is ahead for the area in the coming year. This is when the list of Competitions is published, so remember the date if you are a poet, a singer, an artist - anyone who wants to compete at the Carmarthenshire National Eisteddfod. It is also the first opportunity to see the local residents who will

participate in the Gorsedd ceremonies and the celebratory dance groups, so keep the date clear.
