Hywel’s House will help you to stay healthy


A new online resource – Hywel’s House - has been launched to support local people to lead healthier lives, to enjoy a better quality of life and live longer. In Hywel’s House there are rooms full of useful tips to make healthy small changes to your lifestyle.


It also provides, for the first time, a central place for all the advice issued for Healthy Wednesday. Each of the rooms has a specific theme including healthy eating, sexual health, mental health and alcohol. Teresa Owen, Director of Public Health at Hywel Dda Health Board, said: “Healthy Wednesday gives simple steps on how to make small changes as small changes can lead to big effects over time.

Did you know that within the Hywel Dda Health Board area 59% of people are overweight with 22% obese? Research suggests that lack of regular physical activity and eating high calorie foods contribute to individual’s being overweight and obese.


Within Hywel Dda Health Board only 39% of the adult population eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables a day, why not think about: • Breakfast: adding fruit to your cereal or having fruit juice


• Lunch: have a side salad or a vegetarian meal such as vegetable chilli


• Evening meal: serve two portions of vegetables with your meal


Did you know that regular physical activity helps keep your weight down, improves mental health, helps stop heart disease, cancers and diabetes?


Adults should aim to be active daily. Over a week, activity should add up to at least two and a half hours of moderate exercise in bouts of 10 minutes or more for example 30 minutes at least five days a week.
