Carmarthen markets were treated to a feast of Welsh produce and entertainment on St David’s Day. Almost 100 children from Bigyn
and Ffwrnes schools entertained shoppers at Llanelli Market with their singing whilst dressed in traditional Welsh costumes.
In
Carmarthen, people were given tasters of homemade Cawl made by the cafés in the market, plus ‘Carmarthen Market Cawl’ recipe cards, promoting where the produce could be purchased. The festivities continued in Carmarthen market on the Saturday with Welsh lovespoon carving demonstrations. The events are part of a programme
of activities taking place at the markets throughout the year. Visit

New Farmers Market
A NEW Farmers Market is coming to Carmarthen from April 5 with more stalls and variety for shoppers. It will be set in a new location
behind the Clock Tower, adjacent to Carmarthen Market, and the route will be lined with agricultural vehicles. The search is now on for some of the best local producers and craftspeople to trade, and as part of a three- month trial period they are being given the chance to try their hand at trading for FREE. Carmarthen Market Manager
Eifion Evans said: “If you grow it or make it using local ingredients we may have a place for you. There are many benefits of shopping at Farmers’ Markets: buying food which is fresh and full of flavour; reducing polluting ‘food miles’ and minimising wasteful packaging; helping local farmers and producers to stay in business and earn a living and helping to create a more vibrant town centre.” The new Market will trade
alongside the current weekly Farmers’ Market held every Friday
on Red Street. A similar market is set to be piloted in Llanelli in the summer. Executive Board Member for
Resources Cllr Jeff Edmunds said: “Buying locally and directly from your local farmers and producers means you are guaranteed of getting high quality, traceable produce. These stallholders will know all about their products – from field to fork. The buyer is able to ask questions about the product they are buying or are thinking of buying and stall- holders will have all the answers
because they have produced what they are selling.” * If you are a local food producer
please get in touch to find out how you can get involved. There are strict eligibility criteria before an application is approved. For more information or to receive an application form contact Eifion Evans, Carmarthen Market Manager, on 01267 228 841 or email
