Which distributor events do you attend? What do you get out of them?
“Of course, we go to CES and SEMA, but we also attend the Audio Ameri- ca (Georgia, Florida) road shows. This is where we get face-to-face inter- action with developers, engineers, and higher-ups we wouldn’t normally have access to during day-to-day business activities, and we get it locally.” Matthew A. Meisenbach, MCOR Automotive, Lutz, Fla.
“We attend the dealer shows from Magnum Midwest (Eden Prairie, Minn.) and Mid-State Distributing (Des Moines). Both shows are well supported by their vendors and have representatives from the lines they carry on hand to answer prod- uct questions, provide training on products and help out with technical issues.”
Michael Thomas, Audio Video Extremes, Waite Park, Minn.
“We don’t attend any locally. The dis- tributor shows in Phoenix are more of a ‘beerfest’ to thank customers for their business than learning or train- ing events. Instead, we make sure to attend the Consumer Electronics Show in January and MERA Knowl- edgeFest in the fall, along with the Specialty Equipment Market Show in November. We get a lot more out of these shows, at least for us.” Chad Marra, Xtreme Audio & Design, Mesa, Ariz.
“DAS Distributors (Palmyra, Pa.) puts on a great show every year. In addition to buying specials, it’s a great opportunity to see some custom installations and meet with the manufacturer reps from their lines to talk about new products and upcoming changes. I always find out something new.” Chris Corwith, CC Electronic Installations, Southampton, N.Y.
“We attend anything that Santa Fe Distributing (Lenaxa, Kan.) puts on. They are closest to us and have a good selection of product. We get great product information and point-of-purchase materials to help us market. Being familiar with what they carry helps us know our local resources. It’s also a great opportuni- ty to tap manufacturer reps for their product and industry knowledge.” Howard Kamish, Howard’s Electronics, Glenwood, Iowa
“AM Merchandising (Oakland, Calif.) had been a great partner and resource for us. We count on them for education on new products and accessories, as well as hands-on experience with products we may be able to use in a future sale.” Tony Gestri, Doc’s Auto Sound, Chico, Calif.
