“I HATE SCREWS!”

I always try to engineer parts that bolt together. Wood and metal fasteners are at the top of the list when it comes to this. Their

durability and no-fail design make them excellent choices for high-end or even mid-end installs. Here are two we use on a daily basis. These fasteners, along with many others we use, are from McMas- ter-Carr (www.mcmaster.com).

Hex-drive inserts: Hex-drive inserts have large external threads that increase gripping power. Particularly good for use in particleboard, they are corrosion-resistant and install with a hex driver or power drill.

Tee Nut inserts: These are also great with wood, and way more secure than screws. Drill a hole to fit the shaft and hammer them the rest of the way in.
