“ In a very competitive market, the quality of sports surfaces is key. As our facility adapts,

so does our iTurf programme” Eamonn Murphy,

Grounds & Gardens Manager, Haileybury College

its 4-5 month longevity actually provides cost savings when man hours and machinery wear-and-tear are taken into consideration, he adds.”

Eamonn’s iTurf programme on the cricket squares includes Greenmaster Pro-Lite products such as Turf Tonic 8-0-0+3MgO+Fe and Autumn 6-5-10+6Fe.

Primo Maxx is tank-mixed with either Greenmaster Blade or Greenmaster Liquid High N 25-0-0+2MgO+TE, depending on the turf requirements, on the 1st and 2nd Xl cricket outfields. Effect Iron Fe is used on the 1st Xl cricket outfield and 1st XV rugby pitch.

Eamonn firmly believes that product choice, complemented by sound cultural and mechanical practices, are key to reducing disease outbreaks, and that the accurate application of granular fertilizer is imperative.

Michael Fance arranged for Spreader & Sprayer Testing Ltd to visit the college recently to ensure that their spreaders were accurately calibrated. He also arranges for regular soil sample tests to be carried out to ensure that the correct nutrients are being applied for optimum plant health.

“We are in the process of constructing two new rugby pitches for completion by the end of 2013,” explains Eamonn. “As our facility adapts, so does our iTurf programme. The new pitches will follow a similar product programme, with the addition of Primo Maxx applications on the surrounding sloping banks in order to limit the need for mowing. We’re also planning to trial Primo Maxx in our line-marking paint this autumn/winter to reduce the number of times we mark out our pitches.”
