over many years. He said the new factory would play a

significant part in the future of the company and all those who work in such a

In October, it was on to the Ransomes Jacobsen Open Days at their Ipswich UK headquarters. In what has been a very ‘precipitous’ year, the weather stayed fine, and over 500 visitors were kept busy with educational events, factory tours and practical

demonstrations.

The event, which is held biennially, offered the

opportunity for the company to highlight their complete range of machinery on their own doorstep, including their purpose-built three hole, par 3 course which, after five years, has matured beautifully.

Felix Peters detailing some of the new developments in the Imants/Koro range

An historic collection of Ransomes machinery and mowers lined the course, from the earliest Budding patents to the current state of the art equipment.

More than three hundred and fifty people took the opportunity to go on the factory visit, enabling them to view, at first hand, the production lines in action and see the degree of investment made. Many I spoke to were surprised at the scale of the operations and the speed and quality of components and machinery being produced.

Talking to many of the attendees who came on the Pitchcare stand, the open days were thoroughly enjoyed and worthwhile. They went away with a better understanding of the company and the large scale of production on offer.

My final trip was a two day press trip, courtesy of Campey Turf Care, to see two successful Dutch companies - Imants BV and Vredo - who manufactured a range of cultivators, aerators, decompactors and seeders. Campeys are the sole UK distributor for both companies products.

Imants has been in business for over 125 years, the foundations having been laid in 1885 by the village blacksmith in Reusel, who made hand tools for local farmers and townspeople.

In the 1990s, Imants began manufacturing their successful

Shockwave decompactor, a linear aerator that is now widely used in the sports turf sector.

In 2009, Imants took over Koro Systems. This expansion added major names like the Field Topmaker, Recycling Dresser and Top Drain to their range of machines.

We were welcomed to the factory by Felix Peters, Managing Director of Imants BV. Having toured the impressive manufacturing facility, we were then able to see their latest spading machines in operation which, impressively, level and prepare a perfect seed bed in one pass.

The final stop was to the Vredo factory in Dodewaard, where we were met by Pieter-Teunis Hoogland and the company’s Director and Owner, Hans de Vree. It was Hans’ father who set up the company in the 1970s, manufacturing a range of seeders and slurry injectors. Today, the company offer a wide range of seeders for both the agricultural and sportsturf markets. During the factory tour, we were able to see the R&D offices, production lines and final products awaiting delivery.

These factory visits are an ideal opportunity to see the huge efforts that companies put into providing machines designed to assist groundsmen and greenkeepers in their quest to deliver the best playing surfaces possible.
