A new £8.8million state-of-the-art Clinical Decisions Unit (CDU) has opened its doors at Glangwili Hospital, Carmarthen. Patients are referred to the unit by
a doctor so that their condition can be assessed and investigated further. This improves admission into the hospital and supports other frontline services such as the Emergency Department and GPs. Open 24/7, the unit brings together medical and surgical assessment, as well as Community Resource Teams, pharmacy
and hospital
multidisciplinary teams. Hywel Dda Health Board Chief
Executive Trevor Purt said: “We are delighted to provide this service for patients. It is a key component in improving access to unscheduled care by increasing capacity at the decision making area of the hospital. It will also support us to deliver a quality service, enhancing the patient environment and facilities for staff.”
