Dinefwr celebrates traditional spirit of Christmas
Dinefwr is hosting a fabulous Edwardian Christmas Fayre as the National Trust estate is transformed into a Christmas wonderland with Santa Claus himself appearing as the guest of honour.
On the weekend of November 24 and 25, a male voice choir will sing carols, mulled wine will be served and Newton House will be transformed into a unique shopping experience with crafts and food produce being sold by local businesses.
Visitors can also enjoy a wintery safari around the magnificent National Nature Reserve on a special tractor trailer tour.
Meanwhile down in the old kitchen and laundry room, young visitors will be getting creative as they turn their hands to making traditional decorations and trying out baking their own cakes.
Events co-ordinator Anneliese Parsons said:
“It’s a magical event and a great chance to make some lovely Christmas memories.”
“We really want to celebrate the traditional values of Christmas”.

‘Focus college’ status
COLEG Sir Gâr’s Football Academy has been awarded ‘focus college’ status by the Welsh Football Trust (WFT). This means that male and female
footballers at the college will be supported by the WFT which aims to support player retention at youth level and a growth in female football. “I’m pleased
that the academy’s
commitment to football development has been formally recognised,” said academy director, Jonathan Garcia. “With the WFT behind us, we’ll be able to identify and develop players to support the future success of national teams and develop better qualified coaches.” The college was the only further
education establishment in Wales to be awarded ‘focus college’ status by British Colleges Sport back in 2009 and they have again met a high standard of criteria set by the Welsh Football Trust.
Worldskills award
STUDENTS at Coleg Sir Gâr have been selected for the prestigious WorldSkills UK Squad for the third time in succession. It is the first learning provider in Wales to achieve this feat and also one of the first in Britain. News of the triple success was
announced during a visit to the college by Deputy Minister for Skills, Jeff Cuthbert, who warmly
congratulated the two selected students; website designer Daniel Koehler and carpenter Gareth Jones. Both were chosen to train with the
UK Squad for the WorldSkills contest in Leipzig, Germany next year, when the most talented vocational trainees from more than 50 countries and regions will perform in front of thousands of spectators; attempting to prove
themselves ‘best in the world’ at their chosen occupations. Daniel and Gareth will be aiming to
follow in the footsteps of previous Coleg Sir Gâr students who made it all the way through to the final 23- strong 'Team UK' at WorldSkills 2009 and 2011 and want to emulate web designer David Bowen who won a Medallion of Excellence at WorldSkills 2011 in London.

21 Health service award
University of Wales Trinity Saint David has awarded the title of Professor of Practice – Health Management to Hywel Dda Health Board Chief Executive Trevor Purt, a significant link that will hopefully not only enhance recruitment within Hywel Dda, but also lay the foundations for the Health Board to potentially receive university status in the future. Vice-Chancellor Professor Medwin said:
Hughes “Trevor Purt’s experience and knowledge will
enable the University to develop courses and its academic and research areas to contribute to sustainable policy development in relation to the health service in rural Wales." Trevor said: “I am delighted and
honoured with this award and look forward to working closely with the University on future educational requirements for health service workforce and more widely on innovations in health and wellbeing for rural areas.”
PEOPLE CURRENTLY CLAIMING COUNCIL TAX BENEFIT NEED TO BE AWARE OF A MAJOR CHANGE TAKING PLACE FROM APRIL 2013.
Although the County Council administers Council Tax Benefit in Carmarthenshire, it is a national scheme funded by the Westminster Government.
From April 2013 the Westminster Government is abolishing Council Tax Benefit and replacing it with a locally based Council Tax Support scheme. The new local schemes will receive less funding from Westminster than the present one.
The Welsh Government is working with local authorities to develop a new Council Tax Support scheme for Wales. This has not yet been finalised but as funding is being cut, people receiving Council Tax Benefit will get less help to pay it from next April.
Further information will be publicised as soon as Welsh Government has finalised the new all-Wales Council Tax Support scheme.
