Africa \ Kenya Inside information

Getting There Kenya Airways flies direct to Nairobi in eight and a half hours, from where you can take SafariLink connections to the Masai Mara or other safari locations in Kenya. Why not treat yourself to a business class upgrade, from just £1310 extra return to Nairobi.

Best Time to Visit Kenya has little seasonal differences in temperature, making it ideal for safaris. Long rains do occur between March and May, whereas you can expect short showers in November. The wildebeest migration from August to October is a popular time to travel.

Combine it with... For an unmatched wildlife experience, combine the park and big game of Kenya’s national parks with Rwanda’s gorillas. Contact our Africa Regional Specialists for more information.

Lake Naivasha One of the Great Riſt Valley lakes, Naivasha sits in the shadows of the dormant Longonot Volcano. The freshwater lake supports some 200 species of birds and if you look closely you can see hippos wallowing in the shallows. The shores are dotted with hotels and farms, and Lake Naivasha provides an excellent base for exploring the nearby Hell’s Gate National Park. Activities: hippo safaris, fishing, hiking

flamingos famously flock to the water, creating an immensely beautiful and colourful tapestry. The lake’s abundance of algae attracts vast numbers of birdlife as well as larger mammals. Rhinos, leopards, warthogs and baboons are just some of the wildlife known to inhabit the surrounding grassland and forested cliffs. Activities: bird-watching, safaris

Laikipia The lesser-known wildlife area of Laikipia Plateau is formed of seven large conservancies stretching between the foothills of Mount Kenya and the shores of Lake Baringo. Some of the most incredible wildlife encounters are to be had in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy: home to East Africa’s largest black rhino population and the last few northern white rhinos. Orphaned and abused chimps have also found a home here in the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary. Activities: game drives, wildlife walks

Lake Nakuru Lake Nakuru is a shallow, soda lake set in the Riſt Valley near the town of Nakuru. Millions of pink

Mombasa and beaches Once a colonial trading port, Mombasa is now the gateway to beautiful beaches. In an idyllic sand-meets-sea combination, turquoise waters lap gently onto miles of soſt, white beaches. With a coral reef just offshore there are some great snorkelling experiences to be had. Activities: swimming, snorkelling
