November 10 St Peter's WWI War Graves Tour, St Peter's Village Church, Broadstairs


Visit the graves and remember those who died during or as a result of the 1914-18 World War. These are walking tours, with a guide, around the attractive St Peter's Churchyard, with tales of the 37 people buried there. You will need sensible shoes, as walking will take place across uneven ground, and should allow 90 minutes for the tour. No charge for the tour, donations welcome. Telephone: 01843 868646.


November 17 & 18 A War-Time Christmas, Kent Life, Maidstone


The sights, sounds and tastes of life during World War II at Christmas will be recreated for visitors. Among the attractions at the Christmas on the Home Front weekend will be ‘make do and mend’ lessons, in which former teacher Judi Knight will show visitors how to preserve and re-style clothes from the era. She will also demonstrate wartime cookery using genuine 1940s recipes issued by the Ministry of Food, one of which uses liquid paraffin instead of fat for a sponge cake. Other attractions


Celebrating 150 Years of Kent


during the wartime weekend will include drill displays by the Home Guard, a 1940s school lesson, shops from the era and a rehabilitation centre for injured RAF pilots. It is also hoped to have a German Prisoner of War mending bicycles and community carol singing in the recreated village hall on site.


November 24 Beer and local food festival, Shepherd Neame Brewery, Faversham


Shepherd Neame hosts the second beer and local food festival with lots of local producers exhibiting and selling their wares.


November 24 Charity fish and chip supper, Hadlow College, near Tonbridge


This event, in aid of Hospices of Hope and Chyps charities, includes live music provided by local band Bullshed, a fish and chip supper, a glass of wine or fruit juice and dancing for those who wish. The band specialises in rock music from 1960s to the present day. Tickets are £15 from Pat Crawford, Hadlow College: 01732 852243.


November 25 Christmas festival at Tonbridge & Malling


Celebrate the build up to Christmas by watching the Tonbridge Christmas lights switch on along with live music and entertainment, carol singing and fireworks. Free entry.
