October 7, 14, 21 and 28 Autumn Sundays, Hole Park Gardens, Rolvenden


Visitors to Hole Park Gardens can enjoy colourful exotic borders together with the autumn colours of


the mature stalwart oak trees and the regal reds and elegant shapes of the Japanese maples. The gardens, which are set in the beautiful High Weald, are surrounded by parkland and look out over picturesque Kent countryside and woodland. The gardens are open until October 31 on Wednesdays and Thursdays, between 11am and 6pm, and every Sunday in October.


October 13 Family fun at Woodland Art Festival, Singleton Environment Centre, Ashford


The Conservation Volunteer’s Woodland Art Festival promises to bring the magic of trees to life with a free art and photography exhibition as well as children’s craft activities, face painting, papermaking workshop and a dance performance.


The festival marks the latest stage in the environmental charity’s major heritage trees project. The five-year project, funded by Heritage Lottery Fund, aims to involve the local community in a host of activities to celebrate, protect and enjoy Kent’s oldest and most notable trees. A collection of over 150 off-beat antique gadgets owned by award-winning collector Maurice Collins will be on display at No.1 Smithery: The Gallery. Maurice began collecting his obscure devices and inventions over 30 years ago and has since amassed almost 1,600 items ranging from a clockwork burglar alarm to an electric hair-restoring comb, two clockwork teasmades, a finger stretcher and even a mechanical envelope sealer. With such a vast collection of bizarre gadget and gizmos,


this exhibition is fun for the whole family and has something that will appeal to both traditional collectors and wacky inventor types.
