Mayor's delightful dining experience at Elvey Farm

THE mayor and mayoress of Ashford, Councillor Bob Davidson and Daphne Davidson, enjoyed an evening of gourmet dining at boutique hotel Elvey Farm in Pluckley. They were joined by media and

business professionals to celebrate the refurbishment of the restaurant and were treated to a five-course taster menu. The restaurant's new head chef Phillip

Pearmain, who previously worked as executive chef for Leeds Castle, prepared the a la carte menu which celebrated the ‘Best of British’ cuisine. Phillip has headed up teams at a variety of Richard Phillips restaurants

in Kent, as well as The Swan in West Malling. The restaurant has been redesigned to complement the Best of British theme and is housed in a 16th century barn within 75 acres of Kentish countryside. Kentish scenes by local

photographer Helen Batt were showcased at the event and guests had the opportunity to meet the new restaurant manager, Elsie Innes. Proprietors of Elvey

Farm, Jeff Moody and Simon Peek, held guided tours of the Stable Block and Oast House, which

house suites for overnight accommodation. There are a total of 11 rooms available. Conference facilities within the Oast House are additionally available. Elvey Farm is also licensed for civil

wedding ceremonies and civil partnerships.

Three chimneys wins top accolade

THE Three Chimneys in Biddenden has been named Kent’s dining pub of the year by The Good Pub Guide 2013. An extract from the book says of the pub, whose licensee is Craig Smith: “The simple huddled down exterior of this appealingly civilised place, with its low-slung roof and little windows, is absolutely delightful, and its little low-beamed rooms have exactly the charmingly timeless feel you’d hope for. “The public bar on the left is quite

down-to-earth, with darts, dominoes and cribbage. The candlelit bare-boards restaurant though rurally rustic in its décor is chatty and alive with customers and the style of dining is completely up to date.”
