DORSET AWARDS The proprietors and staff of Lagan Farm Shop at Orchard Park Garden Centre are celebrating winning the Best Farm Shop prize in the 2012 Taste of Dorset Awards just a year after their success as Best Meat producer in 2011. The Farm Shop focuses on local produce, something the team believes to be vital. Farm Shop Supervisor Gemma Read said “One of the benefits of being an independent retailer is that we are able to build relationships with our customers, talking with them to find out what they would like to see on our shelves and using that knowledge to seek out the producers, who are able to provide this. Much of our produce is grown within a few miles of Gillingham. Cheese, butter, cereals, milk, cream, flour, dressings, honey, tea and coffee, biscuits and cake all come from Dorset producers and suppliers.” Lagan Farms meat is the speciality and mainstay of the Farm Shop. The multi award winning Lagan herd was established at Park Farm, Gillingham nearly 20 years ago and offers succulent and full flavoured meat. The meat counter is complimented by home grown lamb, pork, game and chicken all from local farms. “Farm Shops are a vital part of the rural community,” says Richard. “We have almost everything you might need and we hope that by offering a service which is accessible, convenient and maintains a high standard of quality, true local outlets such as Lagan Farm Shop will continue to flourish and grow.”
