THE ROLE OF THE ARMED FORCES PAY REVIEW BODY Figure 4:

“The AFPRB, if they were truly independent of Government, should have submitted a pay increase and let the Government say ‘no’.”

“I understand and support AFPRB’s decision to carry on with the normal rounds of review and recommendations ahead of a return to normal pay rounds. However, many people believe that it is a waste of time as the Government (pay) and MoD (allowances) do not and will not listen to the AFPRB.”

“The AFPRB does a good job representing our case; if Her Majesty’s Government chooses to ignore their recommendation it doesn’t invalidate the recommendation.”

“What is the point of the AFPRB when the Government ignores its findings?”

“Whilst I am very supportive of the idea that everyone has to take their fair share of the ‘pain’, the AFPRB deliberations should not be interfered with, and especially not capped – this completely undermines the whole principle of the AFPRB remit.”

“I feel the AFPRB recommendations may begin to fall on deaf ears because of Government’s requirement to save money wherever it can and will therefore be less effective as a voice for our concerns than in previous reviews.”
