THE NATION’S SUPPORT TO THE RAF
BACKGROUND The evidence in this report represents a snapshot of opinion, taken from Serving personnel and their families across the RAF during June 2012. We sought views on this, admittedly broad range of issues, partly to gauge reaction to the impact of the recent changes and to provide evidence to support the RAF FF report to the AFPRB in Oct 12.
PARTICIPANT DATA A total of 1096 family members took part in this survey; 330 attended workshops and 766 voted online. Votes came from 47 different locations, including the two units that kindly allowed the RAF FF to run workshops on-site – our thanks go to the Station Commanders, personnel and families at RAF Leuchars and RAF Lossiemouth for their support.
Analysis of the personal data indicates that 77% of participants were serving, 21% were non-serving and 2% were Reservists. Of the serving voters, 9% were part of a co-serving couple. 68% were male and three quarters of those who took part were married, with a further 11% defining their status as being in a long-term relationship. The remainder were either single, separated or divorced. 61% of voters had at least one child under the age of 18 living in the family home.
Figure 1:
We received votes from Service family members across the commissioned (28%) and non- commissioned (72%) rank structure. The majority of non-commissioned votes came from SAC, cpls and sgts (see Figure 1); commissioned voters were predominantly fg offs, flt lts and sqn ldrs .
