SERVICE PAY AND ALLOWANCES


Overall responses indicated that, while 50% of respondents were satisfied with their basic pay, 28% were not. As shown in the graph below, further analysis revealed a noticeable difference in responses between commissioned and non-commissioned voters; Figure 7 indicates that the non-commissioned cadre may be less satisfied with basic pay than their commissioned colleagues.

When asked about levels of satisfaction with the allowance package, 48% of respondents said they were dissatisfied with it and it was apparent that the 2011 Allowances Review continues to have an impact on many families. 23% went so far as to say the Review had had a ‘major’ impact on their family income, while a further 48% said the changes had had a ‘minor’ impact. Figure 8 below illustrates which changes had the most impact on families.
