“Our specialised boats and equipment enable children and adults with a disability to compete on level terms - we have boats that can be sailed using sip and puff mouth controls, hands or feet, and even a single finger,” explains Dennis Priebe, Chairman of Rudyard Sailability. “Our goal is to construct a boathouse that will set a benchmark for all future Sailability groups to aspire to, and it is only through the extreme generosity of organisations such as Recticel Insulation that we will be able to achieve this.”
Recticel Insulation has donated its high performance Eurothane GP insulation to Rudyard Sailability, an award-winning charity that provides sailing activities for people living with a disability. The donation marks a substantial step forward for the charity in its mission to create a state-of-the-art sailing facility in Staffordshire.
More than 200m2 of the rigid PIR foam board has been installed in the roof of a prestigious new boathouse, which is being built to very high specifications in order to protect the high- tech boats and equipment needed by the charity. As many of the boats are controlled by complex electronics, it is vital that they are stored in a warm and completely damp-free environment.

Gradient Flat Roofing expands to handle increased demand
Gradient’s National Field Sales Manager, Richard Wilward
Gradient Flat Roofing has announced a series of new appointments which have been made in response to growing demand for the single-layer, tapered roof insulation solutions it provides.
David Parker and Nik Hood have joined the company as Area Sales Managers for Central and South, and for Yorkshire and the East Midlands respectively. Hedley Thompson has taken a similar role covering East Anglia, Tom Diener for the South East and Matthew Nalborczyk for the North West and the Midlands. The new Area Sales Manager for Scotland and the North East is John Hughes, while Paul Simpson has moved from his previous field sales role with the company to become Sales Office Manager. Area Sales Manager Rob Davies will continue to look after the South West and Wales.
“These are important appointments for Gradient,” comments National Field Sales Manager, Richard Milward. “In recent times we have seen demand for our products and services increase significantly, and these appointments mean that we will be able to support that demand fully and efficiently. By adding new members to our sales team we will be able to provide even better support to our customers, and transferring Paul Simpson from his previous field sales role will add an extra dimension to the experience that we have in our sales office.
“As the UK expert in single-layer, tapered roofing Gradient has worked hard to earn a reputation for professional customer support, and we are now investing to make sure that we increase the quality of that support in line with the growth in business that we have been experiencing.”
The £496K boathouse, which is being constructed in natural stone and slate, also incorporates an underfloor heating system, an air source heat pump and a sophisticated heat management system. To complement the heat generation equipment, the building required high standards of roof-level insulation to prevent the dry air and warmth from escaping. Ideal for use in pitched roofs, flooring and wall applications, Recticel’s Eurothane GP was perfect for this purpose.
Eurothane GP is composed from a closed cell, rigid polyisocyanurate foam core, which is faced on both sides with a multi-layer coated aluminium foil. It has an exceptionally low thermal conductivity of 0.022W/mK making it ideal for applications that require very high levels of thermal insulation. What’s more, it is both CFC and HCFC free, meaning it has zero ozone layer depletion potential.
01782 590470 Conversion of disused granary
Roofshield vapour and air permeable underlay and Profloor Dynamic Batterns supplied by the A. Proctor Group, were recently installed on the former Gordon’s Granaries, High Shore, Banff for AD Walker Ltd also based in Banff.
The building has been disused since 1994 and was deteriorating rapidly, with much decay to the exterior of the building. AD Walker Ltd who own the property are converting it into a housing develop- ment of 9 one, two and three bedroom flats.
The former granary buildings date back to the early 18th Century and were originally u- shaped in plan with the courtyard having been infilled later. The building occupies a seafront position, adjacent to St Mary’s Churchyard, within the conservation area and aims to regenerate the former industrial zone in Banff.
The benefits provided by the high perform- ance Roofshield membrane were obvious to the specifiers. The very low vapour resistance of 0.09MNs/g combined with high air permeability reduces the potential for interstitial condensation as far as is possible, and without the requirement to use a vapour control layer, thus giving a robust and dependable solution that can be specified with confidence.
Profloor Dynamic Batten System, a market leader in the manufacture of floating floors for both new build and refurbishment projects, utilises advanced foam technology to provide an impact isolation superior to that achieved using fibre quilt.
