GOOD JOB: Linda Murray with City Building tradesman Andy Clark
A
NEW MOT scheme is helping keep homes in tip-top condition. The service involves
tradespeople giving tenants’ homes a once-over – or MOT – to carry out small repairs.
The scheme will help prevent any small issues becoming bigger ones in the future.
During their visit, the tradesperson
checks the whole house – including the plumbing, electrics and windows – and carries out any minor repairs. At the same time, he or she will identify major repairs that need done and arrange to come back when it suits the tenant. Tenant Linda Murray, from Milton, said: “It’s a good service. The tradesman checked the

windows, radiators and doors – and fixed the toilet seat and the handle on the cistern too. He also sealed some of the windows temporarily. “I think a lot of people will benefit. It will stop things getting too far and get them fixed before they get serious.” The home MOT scheme will be moving around the city. So far, streets in Yoker, Milton, North Pollok and Carntyne have been covered.
The next area will be the Garscadden COMMON REPAIRS TEAM OUT AND ABOUT
WE’RE always trying to improve our repairs service for all our customers. As part of that drive, we’ve launched a new team to deal with repairs in communal areas, such as closes, where there are both owners and tenants. In the past, tenants who shared a block with owners could sometimes experience delays in getting work done. That’s because we need to wait for written approval from
owner-occupiers before carrying out larger repairs to, for instance, a roof. But the new Common Repairs Team aims to speed up the process with homeowners. We hope it means tenants in shared blocks will see a difference.
The team is made up of staff from GHA, YourPlace – GHA’s factoring arm – and City Building. You might soon see YourPlace vans and
staff wearing blue YourPlace uniforms. If you do, it’s the new Common Repairs Team out and about.

and Spiers area at the end of August. The service is optional. We’ll write to you when it is available in your area and invite you to make an appointment.
Jackie Morris, GHA’s North Area Director, said: “The new scheme has been very popular. “It helps us identify small repairs and sort them out rather than deal with
bigger repairs in the future – which are more costly and more disruptive to tenants.”
