USEFUL INFORMATION FOR ALL RACES

n FIRST AID & MEDICAL CARE l The Red Cross and Scottish Ambulance Service will provide first aid and medical care in both static and mobile units along the Marathon and 10K route. First Aiders will be co-located at every water stop along the Marathon, 10K route and at the Event Village. l If you wish to retire at any point during the race, please approach one of our medical or marshal teams. Should runners not be allowed to continue for medical reasons or require hospital treatment, Race Headquarters will be notified.

n RESULTS l Results for Marathon and 10K/10K Corporate Challenge will be posted on our website (www.lochnessmarathon.com) by Monday 1 October. l There are no official results for the 5K Fun Run/ Wee Nessie.

n PHOTOS l Marathon-Photos.com specialises in photo- graphing distance running events around the world, with images displayed on the Internet within days, for viewing and ordering. Finding photos is as easy as typing in your name or race number and orders may be placed online, by post or fax. l We employ a team of photographers to capture your running achievement on the course and at the Finish line. For the best photos we like runners to have their race numbers clearly visible - and to smile! www.marathon-photos.com

n BE GREENER l The event is held in a beautiful and pristine en- vironment and we are committed to reducing the carbon footprint of the event wherever possible. l We are delighted to work with drink suppliers who are reducing the environmental impact of their products and our target is to recycle 95% of the drink containers discarded on race day. Please help us by depositing discarded water bottles and other waste, e.g. energy gels in rubbish collection points located a short distance from each drink and energy station. l We work with a local charity to recycle cloth- ing discarded at the race Start. Please help us by discarding your clothing in the recycling containers at the race Start. l We aim to reduce the paper waste from the event. To help us achieve this we produce e-bulle- tins, updates and newsletters and try to minimise the amount of printed material generated from the event. Please help us reduce paper waste going to landfill by recycling the printed material we send.

l To help us reduce the travel carbon footprint of the event, we are keen to encourage car sharing or using public transport wherever possible.

n RUN FOR CHARITY l We encourage all runners to fundraise for one of our charities. Please refer to page 30 (main maga- zine) for the full list of five Nominated Charities and over 30 Associated Charities and their contact details or visit www.lochnessmarathon.com/ run-for-charity.

n POINTS TO REMEMBER BEFORE LEAVING FOR THE RACE l Read these instructions again! Take particular note of section on first aid and medical care. l Get dressed in tried and tested gear, pin your race number to your running vest before leaving home or your accommodation. l Remember to attach your baggage label (provided in your race pack for Marathon, 10K/10K Corporate Challenge runners) indicating your race number to the top of your kit bag. This is a tear off number attached to your race number. l DO NOT BE LATE for transport departure to Marathon Start on race day. Timings are very tight and transport WILL NOT wait for late arrivals. If you miss our transport, you will be unable to run due to restricted access to the Start. l Wear running shoes and clothing that you are happy with - nothing new. l Lubricate all moving parts liberally with Vase- line. l Many runners use a bin liner to keep warm at the Start of the race. Please place your liner at the side of the road when you discard it, so that it does not cause danger to other runners. l Do not alter direction suddenly, particularly at drink stations. Do not dive suddenly for the first drink station, but try to steer a course for a table where there are fewer runners. l Ensure you hydrate fully in the days before the event and drink regularly along the route especially in warm weather. l Do take it easy until you are well past the halfway mark. You should be able to have an intel- ligible conversation with those around you! l We hope your training has gone well, and would like to remind you that if you have recently had a bad cold or have been ill it is important to seek medical advice prior to the event. Also if your train- ing has not gone to plan we ask you give serious consideration to your ability to run the marathon. l Read the numerous features in the main maga- zine for more tips and hints on race day prepara- tion.
