Canadian Endurance Riders Set to Compete at North American Junior and Young Riders Championships


“It is exciting not only for me, but for all Canadian equestrian fans to officially applaud these outstanding athletes for being nominated to the Canadian Olympic Team,” states Kerri McGregor, Canada’s Equestrian Team Leader. “They have already become heroes in our sport and their continued dedication and achievements will be inspiring us all to wave the maple leaf like crazy both in London as well as all over Canada!”

The 19 riders to the Canadian Olympic


Ottawa, ON- Endurance Canada is pleased to announce the riders representing Canada at the 2012 Adequan FEI North American Junior and Young Riders Championships. Presented by Gotham North, these Championships will be held July 17-22 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexing- ton, KY. Riders will compete for top honours in the NAJYRC-CH 4* FEI Championship. The team will be comprised of Lee Hutten of Chesterville, ON, riding Parker AES, Dessia Miller’s 12-year-old Arabian gelding; Jessica Yavis of Winfield, AB, riding Jahlad, a 10-year- old Arabian gelding, or Kit, an 11-year-old Arabi- an-cross gelding, both owned by Jaye Yavis; and Emma Webb of Flesherton, ON, and Janice Wor- thington’s 12-year-old Arabian gelding. All three riders will also compete together in


the team competition.


Accompanying the team will be Maura Leahy as chef d’équipe, Dr. Glenn Sinclair as the team veterinarian, and Dr. Roxy Bell as the assis- tant veterinarian.

The North American Junior/Young Riders’ Championships (NAJYRC) are held annually under the rules of the Federation Equestre Inter- nationale (FEI) - the international governing body for equestrian sport. The 2012 competition hosts


the Olympic disciplines of eventing, dressage and show jumping as well as FEI disciplines of rein- ing, endurance and vaulting. Many of the world’s top event riders, including many Olympic gold medalists, began their careers at the NAJYRC.
