BEAUTY ISLAND SALON REVIEW

Cut, blow dry – and pamper

Every woman I know loves going to the hairdressers, but not many of us dare to hope to find that salon which does our hair how we like it, says Becca Charlo. It’s almost as difficult as finding the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow

Having your hair done is the perfect opportunity for a bit of pampering. Let’s face it, that all important ‘me time’ is a rare thing these days. Here is Style of Wight’s inside view of our top three Island independent salons.

JAKS HAIR AND BEAUTY OF RYDE

Jaks, on Union Street in the heart of Ryde, has been pampering Island residents and visitors for more than 70 years and prides itself on being at the ‘cutting edge’ of hairdressing and colouring techniques.

“Our large hair salon is beautiful laid out,” says Paul of Jaks. “With plenty of space and natural light you have your own area and are not overlooked by others. You can truly relax and feel at ease – even with a head of foils.”

Recommended Product? “MOROCCANOIL as featured in the last issue of Style of Wight is still our number one recommended product. Whether you are lacking shine or the winter months have played havoc with your locks, this is the perfect product to restore shine and elasticity to the hair. It’s loved not just by our clients, but by our stylists too.” And if you’re looking for the perfect hair brush, I recommend the MOROCCANOIL Ceramic Medium Barrel Brush. It’s simply amazing. The results I get with this brush don’t compare to any brush I’ve used in the past!

Must-have Treatment? MOROCCANOIL Intense Hydrating Mask with Shiatsu massage. This is the perfect relaxing treatment, not only for the client but for your hair. It is really beneficial to hair in need of extra conditioning. Ideal for thick hair, the high-performance, argan oil-rich formula deeply hydrates and conditions while dramatically improving hair texture, elasticity, shine and manageability.

Coffee? Complimentary teas and coffees are always offered to our clients on arrival and throughout your visit. “We’ll also put a sneaky biscuit on the side for you to enjoy too.”

Meet and Greet? On entering Jaks you will be greeted by Jessica and her Clarins beauty team. Walking into the large hair salon you will be looked after by either Annabel or Beverley at reception. If it is your first visit, Jaks have a quiet seating area for your consultation with your hair designer.

ZEN HAIR AND BEAUTY OF NEWPORT

Zen Hair & Beauty of Newport is opposite the bus station, so no need to worry about parking the car! The salon boasts a modern, chic style with several treatment rooms where the ambiance relaxes you from the moment you walk in.

Recommended Product? Matrix Total Results Sleek Iron Smoother is a heat protection spray, ideal for damaged and frizz prone hair. This leave-in spray is a must have when using hot styling tools. The effective formula guards hair against up to 400°F heat damage, and also offers humidity protection. Perfect for use with flat irons, it also helps hair maintain a sleek and glossy finish for longer. “Everyone who has had this used on their hair when we’ve styled it has wanted to know what it is,” says Noni. “It’s a total hero product!”

Must-have Treatment? Balmain Hair Volumising treatment – amazing treatment that overcomes thin hair which lacks volume. Giving your hair body, texture and can give the appearance of length.

Coffee? We have a range of different strengths so we can make it to suit. We also have a selection of herbal teas or chilled filtered water.

Meet and Greet? You will always get a warm greeting from any of the many staff on reception. We will offer to take your coat and get your preferred drink.
