GETTING TO KNOW OUR NEW BOARD MEMBERS..……………………….……......
Wanda Jones Columbia County Fair By Gayle Hart
After attending 12 years of Florida
Federation and IAFE conventions Wanda Jones was elected to the Florida Federation of Fairs Board of
Directors. Wanda played a crucial role as chair of the agricul- ture committee as well as participating as a member of the showcase committee, door prize committee, trade show and traveling exhibits. Wanda has also served as moderator of various topics and sat on panels for round table discussions at conventions for both the FFF and the IAFE. Born and raised in Lake City, Florida, Wanda and her hus- band Randy exhibit Santa Gertrudis cattle and are familiar faces at several Fairs throughout the state. Wanda also had the opportunity to chair the National Junior Santa Gertrudis Heifer Show in 1998 and served on the National Santa Gertru- dis Junior Show committee from 1997 – 2000. For 26 years she has been an active participant at the Co-
lumbia County Fair which began with a love of the Livestock program and eventually serving as President for 5 years and Secretary/Treasurer for 7. Presently she is serving on the
Board of Directors and continues to chair the Smokin’ Pig BBQ Event which is held every September. As a member of the “Tough Enough to Wear Pink Crisis Fund Committee” Wanda found a synergy with philanthropy. “Each October a free of charge breast cancer luncheon is held in our community, we make available, at no cost,
thirty mam-
mograms to women who are not medically insured and have not had a mammogram in at least 2 years,” stated Wanda. “This program is my pride and joy. It makes me feel that I am actually making a difference in our community one woman or person at a time.” Relishing her role as a community servant, Wanda has
served as President of the Boys and Girls Club of Columbia County, President of the Columbia County 4- H Advisory Board, as well as board member of the FFA Alumni Associa- tion; Jamie Richards Prospect Steer/ Heifer Show and numer- ous positions within the Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she remains a lifelong member. Spending quality time with sons Bryan and David and their 6 grandchildren is important to Wanda and Randy. Time with family is usually preferred by the river, at a ball game or cow shows, but sitting down for Sunday supper after church with 24 family members has become a cherished ritual.
“I’m excited to serve the Florida Federation as a member of the
Board of Directors. I am a big believer in TEAMWORK. Individu- ally we can make a small impact on our world/industry but as a team we can make a BIG difference.”
