FLORIDA FAIR NEWS …….……………………...…………………………….. THE 2012 BREVARD COUNTY FAIR

By William E. Cannon, G.M. - The Brevard County Fair The 2012 Brevard County Fair showed continued growth for the

fourth straight year thanks to the efforts of our dedicated volun- teers. The addition of Ms Brittany Bethel as our Fair Project Man- ager has contributed to our event’s continued success. Her atten- tion to detail and her dedication to the everyday operation of The Brevard County Fair centralizes those tasks so necessary for a successful Fair. She, as well, acts as liaison between our Fair Board and our Brevard County Extension Service. Mr. Jim Fletch- er, Brevard County Extension Director and our President, Mr. Frank Sullivan, have been instrumental with the development of The Brevard County Fair. We owe a great deal of success to Mr. Fletcher and Mr. Sullivan for their vision and direction but I am sad to say that Mr. Fletcher has taken a new position as Director of Extension Services in Osceola County. We look forward to working with our interim director, Ms Linda Seals. She, along with our other extension and 4-H personnel, have worked every year to ensure that The Brevard County Fair continues to grow and offer a clean and wholesome venue for family education, infor- mation and fun. I just want to take a few lines to thank Ms Jeannie Keaton and

Ms Dawn Rowe for being part of our evaluation team this year. I know that you are supposed to be cool as a cucumber when they show up but I was a nervous wreck. I could not even remember who Jeannie was as first. I felt so stupid but that is nothing new for me. Again, thank you to Jeannie and Dawn for being there and sharing your expertise to help us maintain the highest possible standards. Inclement weather took its toll on our attendance this year. We

were on our way to record breaking attendance but Mother Nature brought us rain on both Saturdays deterring all but the hardy fair goers. We did show a slight increase but it could have certainly been better. We were very fortunate to offer our first ground entertainment

this year. NoJoe’s Clown Circus played to standing room only crowds and Mr. Marc Dobson’s “One Man Band” entertained our Fair attendees. Both of those venues were outstanding addi- tions to this year’s offerings.

Another addition to this year’s Fair

was the Bar C Ranch. Mr. Will Caton and his camel ride conces- sion was a hit and would be a positive addition to your Fair next season. The biggest news from this year’s Fair was our 4-H Heifer Show

and our Poultry Show and Sale. We have opened our Heifer Show to our surrounding counties and we had increased partici- pation. Ms. Jennifer Walter and her husband Joe have always been instrumental in the operation and set up of our 4-H display tents. I am pleased to announce that this year’s Poultry Sale brought in almost $3,000.00 in revenue that went to the partici- pants. Thank you again to our 4-H and Extension Agents for a job well done. Ms Gloria Myers and her Myers International Midway family

continue to bring their exciting midway attractions to the delight of our Fair attendees. Ms Gloria has helped us from the beginning and we look forward to the continued growth of the Brevard Coun- ty Fair.

I don’t have enough space to thank everyone who is responsible for helping with the success of our Fair. To The IAFE, The Florida Federation of Fairs, staff and members who have taken their time to share and offer their help in our development, we will always be grateful. On behalf of our President, Mr. Frank Sullivan and our Board, Thank You!
