There are now a total of three All Novice Shows held in Ontario each year. One hosted by the Ontario Quarter Horse Association another by the Eastern Ontario Quar- ter Horse Association, and the other hosted by the Area 3 Quarter Horse Promotional Club.

Show Dates for the Novice Shows In Ontario:

These All Novice Shows offer classes for novice competitors only and include a slate of clinics and demonstrations conducted by mem- bers of AQHA’s Professional Horse- men’s Association. These events are specifically geared toward the novice horseman, providing you with the guidance and encouragement to either step into the show pen for the very first time, or to simply take on the challenge of a new event. Novice shows aim to broaden your horizons, give you some increased confidence, and set you on the path to achieving the goals that you set out for your- self.

New for 2012: The OQHA and Eastern Ontario Quarter Horse Novice show are also offering a full list of Rookie classes as part of their Novice Shows.

The Ontario Quarter Horse Association realizes that everyone needs to start somewhere. You’ll find that many OQHA approved shows throughout the province, offer a great environment for both learning and developing new friendships, within the sport. Camaraderie amongst com-

petitors is high and normally you’ll meet many others who like you, are just starting out. Many of these shows offer a full list of novice classes. So don’t just plan on attending the All Novice Shows. . . Practice makes perfect, and we want to give you every opportunity to become your very best!

What are Rookie Classes? The purpose of the Rookie level class in particular is to reach AQHA mem- bers of all ages and riding levels. By developing true entry-level classes, AQHA plans to introduce new AQHA members, as well as current AQHA members who have never shown, to the AQHA show scene. These classes allow competitors to compete with other competitors of similar experience.

Rookie-level classes will be offered in both amateur and youth divisions.

For an exhibitor to be eligible to compete in a Rookie-level class, that exhibitor must have earned fewer than 10 lifetime points in that class in any division. Note: If you are considered a Rookie, you may also wish to compete in the Novice class- es. Once you have earned more than 10 AQHA points in a particular Rookie class, you will graduate to novice for that class.

What are Novice Classes? The AQHA Novice program allows even the experienced AQHA member wanting to try something new to develop his or her horsemanship and exhibitor skills.

The Novice program is avail- able to you in youth and amateur competition. To be eligible, you must not have earned 25 Novice youth, youth, novice amateur, ama- teur or open combined lifetime points in that novice class.

The Novice program also allows you to try out a horse you are thinking about buying. AQHA rules allow a Novice youth or Novice amateur competitor to show a horse in a Novice youth or Novice amateur class with the owner and his or her immediate family still retaining the ability to show the horse in any class other than the same class as the Novice exhibitor. Novice youth and Novice amateur exhibitors can also show a leased horse in a novice class.
