18/ JUNE 2012 THE RIDER Running barrels means more to this
family than just chasing cans They do it as a family tradition.
Barrel racing…
..It is a family tradition at the Reliable Barrel Horse ranch in Watford, Ontario. RBH owner Stephanie Jackson says there is noth- ing better than loading your horses, filling the fridge and heading down the road with your chil- dren to a barrel race! RBH is back on the futurity trail with Jessie Jackson, the resident trainer for RBH. She is mounted on her first futurity horse, 4 year old mare Haut Chocolat.
Jessie and Hautie Colton and Nic Goes Hollywood
Jessie and “Hautie” kicked off their season with their first futurity at the OBRA Barrel Blast to win the first go and finish reserve champion in the average for the weekend. Next stop was Que- bec where the duo faced what maybe some of the toughest 80 futurity horses the RBH team has ever faced to finish 5th in the average for the weekend. Things have stayed “Haut for the duo” running reserve champion at the Via Barrel Blast behind the great mare “Annie” which RBH sold the McNiven family back in the spring of 2011. The time at Via was a shock to Jessie as they crossed the finish line in a time fast enough to run 3rd in the open. Jessie and Hautie will travel throughout North America for the 2012 season. Paige 14, and her mare Shel- by’s French Girl finished Top 10 at the Congress to round out her first season with her new partner in October, 2011. Kicking off the 2012 season at the OBRA barrel blast the duo won the youth run and finished top 10 in the 1d of the open with the next stop to go on to the Rock N Rodeo in Kingsville where they won the Junior Barrels.
The youngest Colton 12, is mounted on a new horse that he shares with his Mom “ Nic Goes Hollywood” from the Graves Ranch in Oklahoma. This team finished in the 2d at their debut show in Clinton for the OBRA Barrel Blast as well as the Via Trailers Blast Off just out of the money. Raising teenagers in today’s world is not an easy task Stephanie states she feels “the busier you keep your children the better, if it means getting to have my kids wanting to spend every weekend with us doing what we all love to do together as a family, she will do all it takes to make this happen, you cannot put a price tag on those memories.”
RBH is recognized by families throughout North America as the family you can trust when looking to buy a new barrel horse celebrating its 7th year in business and has mounted over 350 riders.
